The Palau Red Cross Society
Palau Red Cross Society (PRCS) is a not-for-profit humanitarian organisation, established by the Palau National Congress through House Joint Resolution 5-24-3 on 31 July 1997.
PRCS became a recognised member of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on 30 September 1997. It was admitted as a member to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) on 20 November 1997, joining a membership of 190 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies around the world.
Our mandate is to serve the most vulnerable, alleviate human suffering and contribute to the promotion of human dignity and peace.
Our work is based on the seven Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement:
- Humanity
- Impartiality
- Neutrality
- Independence
- Voluntary Service
- Unity
- Universality
Our leadership and management comprises a governing board elected by our members, and a staff managed by an Executive Director.
Through our headquarters in Koror and network of volunteers, we provide services throughout the country and will soon be establishing branches in different locations to further expand our activities.
Our Future
PRCS is currently embarking on a period of positive change and growth. We are creating a future which embraces the following commitments:
- Supporting communities in Palau to become more resilient to the impacts of disaster and climate change
- Promoting safe and healthy living through community based health and first aid activities
- Expanding our membership and volunteer base, in a way which includes all members of society, regardless of age, gender, nationality, disability or other factors.
- Ensuring open and transparent governance and management to remain accountable to our members and the people we serve.
Our People
As a non-political, non-religious organisation we strive to attract people committed to our vision and the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent.

Fire Victims Assistance
We provide immediate assistance to families in urgent cases of need, such as house fires, by offering basic necessities including food, clothing and other essentials.
What We Do:
Blood Donor Recruitment
We help ensure the availability of emergency blood supplies in Palau through the recruitment of voluntary blood donors, who can be called on to provide blood as and when needed by the Belau National Hospital.
What We Do:
Services to the US Armed Forces
We work together with American Red Cross to provide support to members of the US Armed Forces in cases of personal emergency such as illness or death of family members. Palau Red Cross assists in verification and notification to members of the U.S. Military of serious illness es or death of an immediate family member. The service member is able to come home on an emergency leave and be with their family.
What We Do:
Community First Aid & Safety
Palau Red Cross offers a 12 hour course teaching skills in Adult CPR, Child & Infant CPR, and First Aid. A certification card is released upon completion of the course. As more members of our community learn these skills, we will be more prepared to help friends and family in need. The nominal training fee contributes to sustaining the other humanitarian activities of PRCS.
What We Do:
Disaster Preparedness & Response
We respond to disaster situations, i.e. typhoons, floods and fires. Our volunteers are trained and equipped to conduct rapid assessments and provide emergency relief to affected families thoughout the country.
